Apple Crisp

Another recipe compliments of my mother-in-law who made this for me when I was almost ready to give birth to our first daughter, Mahala. It was so sweet and scrumptious. I honestly think I may have eaten the entire dish, lol.

  • 6-3 granny smith or other crisp apples
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1  1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 stick butter (this is probably why it’s so tasty)
  1. Peel and slice apples into 1/4″ thick chunks/slices
  2. Drizzle 1 tbsp of lemon juice over apples and stir to coat
  3. Mix in another bowl, 3/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. Add apples and toss to coat.
  4. Pour apple mix into a 9×9 baking dish. Slice 1/2 butter and place slices over the top of mixture.
  5. For topping: mix 3/4 flour, 3/4 brown sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. Cut in 1/2 stick butter (slice into thin slices – using 2 knives keep slicing in flour mixture until butter is pea size). Sprinkle over the top of apples.
  6. Bake at 375 degrees for 45-55 minutes until flour mixture is lightly browned & crisp. Apples should have collapsed some of their height and the mixture shows bubbling juices. Let cool to 10-15 minutes until firm. Serve with vanilla ice cream. YUM!
